James Canning

I cannot recommend Ray and Sean from Pegasus Training highly enough as they both have excellent knowledge and experience to help their students gain the best education possible before moving into the their careers within the Health and Fitness Industry.

My name is James Canning and back in 2008 I decided to give up my job as a PE Instructor to take up my passion and pursue a career in fitness and personal training. I had lifted weights in the gym for many years and thought I knew what I was talking about.

It was at this point I met Raymond and realised I knew very little about how to coach clients. I completed the 8 weeks full time Advanced Diploma in Personal Training course and can honestly say it was the best educational experience I’ve had to date.  The great thing about Pegasus Training is that they have so many connections within the Health & Fitness Industry. As well has providing you with amazing underpinning knowledge of both the theory and practical, you also have a great opportunity to get employment after completion of the qualifications.

From Pegasus I moved straight into employment and became a Personal Trainer with David Lloyd Leisure in Glasgow for 2 years before being promoted to the Lead Coach (Fitness Manager) role. All in all I stayed at David Lloyd for over 5 years, which was great as I still had contact with Raymond and his colleague Sean who were based there at the time. After leaving Glasgow, my greatest achievement so far has been opening my own fitness facility in Abu Dhabi UAE. My gym is a personal training only environment with a focus on strength and hypertrophy methods to help our clients achieve their fat loss and weight loss goals.

I have been a fitness enthusiast since the very first day I joined a gym at the age of 16, competing internationally in CrossFit and in Powerlifting. I am the current Powerlifting British Champion in my weight class, training regularly in power gyms with a keen interest in functional fitness.

Leaving the military after serving 10 years in the Royal Navy, which included multiple operational tours to Afghanistan and qualifying as a physical training instructor, I wished to continue on the path of physical training. I wanted to share my past experiences, knowledge and generally help people to move better and become healthier.
